ITC Defense Corp. Receives HUBZone Certification from U.S. Small Business Administration
ARLINGTON, VA (June 24, 2014)— ITC Defense Corp., an engineering and services firm, has received certification as a qualified HUBZone (Historically Underutilized Business Zone) small business concern by the Small Business Association.
The HUBZone Program was created in 1997 to promote economic development and employment growth in distressed areas. The US Federal Government sets the annual procurement goal for contracting with HUBZone firms at three percent of total contracting activities, with 2013 HUBZone prime contracts estimated at over US $10 Billion. In recent years, most Federal Agencies have underperformed to the three percent goal. As a benefit of the HUBZone program, HUBZone firms can receive Sole Source and Small Business Set Aside Contracts, as well as a 10 percent Price Evaluation Preference on Full and Open Contracts and subcontracting opportunities.
Taking steps to qualify as a HUBZone concern further demonstrates ITC’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility. Thirty-five percent of company employees must live in a qualified HUBZone tract. ITC has embraced the commitment to provide quality jobs and opportunities to underserved communities, in addition to providing an economic thrust in communities where it is most needed.
“We are very pleased to have received this important certification from the Small Business Administration,” said Michael Cast, ITC’s President. “To be sustainable in the long-term in the current economic environment, we must work together with our community. By investing in, and helping to grow the communities in which we live and work, we will reap the rewards of a more qualified employee base, improve everyone’s quality of life, and share the responsibility of being ‘good citizens’ in our community.”
In addition to the 35 percent rule, the company’s Principle Office must be located in a HUBZone tract. ITC selected Gainesville, Florida as the site for the office due to its proximity to educational and economic institutions, such as the University of Florida. “Gainesville offers access to some of the brightest young talent in the country,” Cast said. “We offer opportunities to gain skills and education in the Defense Industry as well as Government Acquisition. The government acquisition workforce is aging and we hope to encourage the interest of a younger generation in an industry not as well known outside the DC metro area.”
